The deadline for submissions to th Fall '07 issue, is Jue 1st.

We're no longer doing themed issues, so feel free to submit articles on any topic you wish.

When submitting, write with a specific section in mind and stick to the word count. Please note that all word counts are maximums and can (and often should) be shorter.

All work featured in the print issue is accompanied by images or art. If you can provide the necessary photographs or artwork please let us know.

Short Pieces

Reviews
Opinionated reviews of CDs, books, performances, events, video games, etc. should be
150 words or less per review. * Must be accompanied by product image.

Gettin’ It Done
Serious or absurd ‘how to’ articles related to personal issues and expatriate life in Taiwan. Should be written in list (step-by-step), form.
750 words or less

Toppers
Unusual top ten, twenty, fifty, etc. lists with short, witty reasons for placement.
750 words or less

Satire
Journalistic parodies of high-profile events.
750 words or less

Ragin’
Serious or satirical rants about anything and everything. Can be written in essay or point-by-point (list) form.
750 words or less

Mediums
Feature artist or art style. Anything goes: sculpture, photography, found art, painting, industrial design, drawings from your kindie…whatever.
750 words or less accompanied by at least 10 quality images.

Arts
Articles and opinion pieces covering literature and art current and past, popular and obscure.
750 words or less

Personal Designs
The fashion section. We want opinion pieces extolling or mocking current trends and ideas.
750 words or less

Lyrics
Poetry or poetry/image fusions.
Maximum 5 poems

Longer Articles

Gender Blender
Opinions, essays, or first person stories discussing sex issues--the freakier the better.
1500 words or less

From the Road
Short tales of adventures on the road accompanied by relevant pictures.
1500 words or less

Interfaux
Humorous mock interviews with well-known personalities.
1500 words or less

Interviews
Q & A’s with unique, quirky, mentally challenged, or psychotic locals (the weirder the better) or offbeat interviews with interesting or well-known personalities.

Poli Spy
Reporting and analysis of general interest and Taiwan-related political/cultural issues. Articles don’t necessarily need to be written in first-person, but must be opinionated and written with a strong personal voice. Of course, all facts must be sourced.

The New Style
Articles written in the New Journalism style pioneered by Tom Wolfe, George Plimpton and Hunter S. Thompson. Article features the title of the article the author was writing but, instead of reporting, tells the author’s experience writing the article.
2500 words or less

Espresso Fiction
Just what it says--short fiction.
2500 words or less
